Yosemite Fire Falls and a Little Lady Luck
Lady Luck was on my side this weekend... as I caught a glimpse of the phenomenon known as “Firefalls” once a year in February if you are lucky Mother Nature delivers a spectacular show and this was no disappointment... the lava flowed for almost 30 minutes which from what I’ve been told is a very long show that is normally over in 10 minutes if it happens at all. Just east of El Capitan.. images are all taken within an hour of each other from 4:50pm to 5:50pm Saturday February 20th, 2021 🔥 ❤️ As the story goes the original Firefall started in 1872, as the owners of Glacier Point Hotel in Yosemite Valley tossed burning embers off the top of Glacier Point. As the embers fell nearly 3,000 feet to the valley floor from a distance they appeared as a glowing waterfall. As you can imagine over time in January of 1968, the National Park Service banned the practice... hard to believe it went on that long... Mother Nature came to the rescue though with the return of the Firefall, but this one occurs naturally. For a brief two-week window in February, the last fleeting rays of sunset fall perfectly upon Horsetail Fall, on the east side of El Capitan. The sunlight ignites the fall in a vibrant red and orange glow, reminiscent of the original Firefall. The colors are so impressive that the waterfall appears to be on fire or as if lava is flowing. The timeframe to catch this is easy to predict however actually witnessing it involves various natural elements coming together in perfect unison. Sincerely this may have been the most EPIC photographic experience to date I have personally witnessed! The crowd... (yes crowds... roared as it lit up) Thank you Mother Nature and 2021 this was amazing! More pics from the weekends adventures in Yosemite valley to come throughout the week... I had to get these out tonight to share #yosemitefirefall2021 #californiaroadtrip #californialove #californiagirl #yosemitenationalpark #firefall #horsetailfalls
This was such an amazing experience from the luck with the timing of planning the trip to getting the park entrance pass and hotel room at the last minute to the people I met and shot the phenomenon with. To witness this all, capture it in photos and now sharing my love for all of this with the earrings as a keepsake.. this once a year or possibly once in a lifetime experience I will never forget. Grateful and thrilled to share this with all of you.
Lots of Love ~ Debbie
